With the theme "Invest in women: Accelerate progress," this year's celebration encourages everyone to help achieve gender equality and women’s well-being in all aspects of life, as such effort creates prosperous global economies and a healthy sustainable world. The celebration challenges us to face and hurdle the key global challenge: the alarming $360 billion annual deficit in gender-equality measures by 2030. Some countries remain to be skeptical of women's power to lead.</p><p>AEC students discussed the many contributions of their mothers or female guardians in improving their lives and making their homes the safest and most secure places to live in and thrive. They described the women they love dearly by making posters. They played a Totika game to improve mindfulness, as it relates to how they can help protect the women they care the most about. Students also discussed how this precious celebration contributes to meeting the global goal of gender equality.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/womens-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="810" data-original-width="1080" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIHRKY4NBYj4SpJmbwjn6WhWEJNQsLkVNC1Pr8qewthARTLlhBDkgn_F96BI7e8QUMFa1s1KbfDX3FBAVWLEr-izAz4gi6TSjiHS-6AVMk6KfdlRGtYfEFAjWPLuDoghJB_NjueO1Py9hzqb8BuG_rYkaW3xMY9KzJPn0DdYOWUTpVkGgi6h9IasV3gUA/w640-h480/2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/womens-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg8XuI5IUS5xUoQvEfcPKdsNhtyrFgPthz8ni-Bf3mMa4AT_u5-hfbb6zHwiFhFu2sPb4zTinzgbubXILXDsb9LTEx58NzSrh2fDWpcRfFk-b782HaMdwYGRt9k3VVZJ9iMHjGqpwJakhoKZ82u8KJO2sXMv8vfrXP3Ox6J69E7nh3HbNzC50rLtl8_nlk/w640-h480/1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/womens-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhmwazSccv4dux4HhePHm7A6Kdp3yViqkFOMlOiAEAzuD7VFAaSZIci3-5S72YQgTcoJ-vc-4iIzb9miWEyEsopUQL36qKYs0VubmUjbpIgyEmlPLKmeG7qKFNn_TPZJtbwFQoJ0uW4ZJf0k5X_abGiQbVo5_DMT5U1t8T9fRSwBHesexiNaNDNiVIRA7M/w640-h480/3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7311059832490784368.post-42034661049549309482024-03-02T23:53:00.002-06:002024-03-08T08:03:27.726-06:00AEC joins World Day of Social Justice <p>Alternative Education Center joined the world in celebrating the <a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/social-justice-day" target="_blank">World Day of Social Justice</a> on February 20, 2024. World Day of Social Justice reminds us each year of the need to build fairer, more equitable societies. Advancing social justice is the central aim guiding all national and international policies. Societies and economies function more cohesively when social justice is prioritized.</p><p>AEC students played a card game to discuss ways to improve social intelligence. They explained how applying social intelligence could lead people to understand social justice and commit to advancing and protecting it. They discussed what social justice could look like in school and family settings. They used a coloring activity to demonstrate their message if they were to help promote social justice. Ultimately, AEC students discussed how the World Day of Social Justice celebration helps promote the global sustainable goals of reduced inequalities and peace, justice, and strong institutions.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJ_Uc1QshlbaALSJZDwjIn5v-s9ud3874KqNO408xY5L12wLeDF-NWl-ouVckItQx8EfYGHo_1Wla3iDwPhjAa0YrPOzR-aViI6vqfu2SrFex0ZoReihnl42S1AFxnge2CyixIK_HUj8u9xyJ0PfnY3UnKyFhyphenhyphenF-DBXDTjRJjSctx_05S-zwOk4dlA3TU/s1920/1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhJ_Uc1QshlbaALSJZDwjIn5v-s9ud3874KqNO408xY5L12wLeDF-NWl-ouVckItQx8EfYGHo_1Wla3iDwPhjAa0YrPOzR-aViI6vqfu2SrFex0ZoReihnl42S1AFxnge2CyixIK_HUj8u9xyJ0PfnY3UnKyFhyphenhyphenF-DBXDTjRJjSctx_05S-zwOk4dlA3TU/w640-h480/1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8ckxdNLPLn866TpI79VRN0_ymkPdaXMq52EGwD702UhOoppXewUcIrYG7hFPjXvf-JgIGgbawOVt7QoMh6LuRNwWaXuDmIranHQnQoBUkUw4H39dLbtvUEXZKafTe1pAMHahg4EaQjiZwgZMw8IZbtQLBbZgUkp5Nwq-Nahd_24_QngC0V0wiG2moKIM/s1284/2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="963" data-original-width="1284" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh8ckxdNLPLn866TpI79VRN0_ymkPdaXMq52EGwD702UhOoppXewUcIrYG7hFPjXvf-JgIGgbawOVt7QoMh6LuRNwWaXuDmIranHQnQoBUkUw4H39dLbtvUEXZKafTe1pAMHahg4EaQjiZwgZMw8IZbtQLBbZgUkp5Nwq-Nahd_24_QngC0V0wiG2moKIM/w640-h480/2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7311059832490784368.post-38683918911144872612024-02-16T14:07:00.006-06:002024-03-08T08:02:40.328-06:00AEC boosts local tourism for Global Tourism Resilience Day <p>Alternative Education Center boosted local tourism in celebration of the Global Tourism Resilience Day on February 16, 2024, typically celebrated every February 17th. The celebration allows people to appreciate and recognize tourism as a major source of income, foreign currency earnings, tax revenue, and employment, especially for developing countries. Because tourism connects people with nature, resilient tourism uniquely encourages environmental responsibility and conservation. </p><p>AEC students drew what they believe is the major source of tourism in Odessa, TX. They identified the oil field as the biggest tourism spot in Odessa and discussed its implications. Many students confidently explained how they are happily benefiting from oil field tourism because their families work in this industry. People from all parts of the globe come to Odessa to check out one of the world's biggest sources of oil and gas and decide to work here, which improves the city's economy. Students also discussed how resilient people in Odessa are because they have maintained the oil and gas production even during COVID-19. They further discussed ways to maintain Odessa's environmental conservation while oil and gas production continues.</p><p>Unfortunately, students acknowledged the bad effects of the oil and gas industry and tourism because these invite the proliferation of illegal drug business and abuse. During their guidance lesson, students used REBT's ABCDE approach to explain their activating event in abusing drugs, belief about it, consequence of doing it, effort to dispute their belief, and effective alternative behavior that is helpful to them to stop drug abuse. Finally, students explained how the Global Tourism Resilience Day helps meet the global goal of sustainable cities and communities. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrmohyWHgP39z_yGb0Lz8vKGcuIvY90u9aEZwpdaBtueCYkG1zNqoyLgkJupeEu_p084vkwtQ-iifb_OBRAEgy49xOsmp8VKMVXQDGOj7lQ8EOTt-1CmtsH-PY4LEe4K0XKotSRtEVlB7NGge9sfw-5T0uY71xHFuWmwVbXkyIW0UpUdMEY8xr-nr4QHk/s1284/Tourism1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="963" data-original-width="1284" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjrmohyWHgP39z_yGb0Lz8vKGcuIvY90u9aEZwpdaBtueCYkG1zNqoyLgkJupeEu_p084vkwtQ-iifb_OBRAEgy49xOsmp8VKMVXQDGOj7lQ8EOTt-1CmtsH-PY4LEe4K0XKotSRtEVlB7NGge9sfw-5T0uY71xHFuWmwVbXkyIW0UpUdMEY8xr-nr4QHk/w640-h480/Tourism1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjP-vwaxTS642zoWL5OC10wZJsWHnkx7U_ZYNkIaanm0V0ZBj-ujp_uo-l2XT65ZBf1lJVCh_yd3HpDXh9kwaCVw5sLqF0mh7sv0gbZZjqBAArxf-NU5ItnBJeQV7H25Qud7FEkuIXpklEqqVqI8AtFC7LyVYjycdBDWEFSLj5CwJ2CMzETTUJhdO0qR08/s1920/Tourism2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1439" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjP-vwaxTS642zoWL5OC10wZJsWHnkx7U_ZYNkIaanm0V0ZBj-ujp_uo-l2XT65ZBf1lJVCh_yd3HpDXh9kwaCVw5sLqF0mh7sv0gbZZjqBAArxf-NU5ItnBJeQV7H25Qud7FEkuIXpklEqqVqI8AtFC7LyVYjycdBDWEFSLj5CwJ2CMzETTUJhdO0qR08/w640-h480/Tourism2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br /><p style="text-align: center;"><br /></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7311059832490784368.post-2755408096606185652024-02-12T13:25:00.002-06:002024-03-08T08:01:48.106-06:00AEC celebrates International Day of Human Fraternity <p>Alternative Education Center celebrated on February 9, 2024, the <a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/human-fraternity" target="_blank">International Day of Human Fraternity</a>, which is annually observed worldwide on February 4th. The celebration of human fraternity for peace and cooperation aims to recognize the valuable contributions of people of all religions or beliefs to humanity. It raises awareness and understanding of the common values shared by all humankind across the globe.</p><p>AEC students used a story cubes game to explain ways to be tolerant and accepting of individual differences and appreciative of everyone's contribution to society. Students talked about social and communication skills to be civil to one another. They used art to show the biggest contribution of their culture or identity to society that they are proud of. During this week, AEC students integrated the discussion of the Holocaust into their group guidance sessions. They shared their opinions about the current Israel-Hamas and Russia-Ukraine wars and why the U.S. supports Israel and Ukraine. </p><p>AEC students shared their personal conflicts at home or in school and explained ways to resolve these conflicts. The most common theme students emphasized was respecting individual differences. Students stressed that all humans regardless of identities have the right to live and learn from mistakes to change and thrive. Students discussed how the Holocaust remembrance celebration helps achieve the global goals of reduced inequalities and peace, justice, and strong institutions. </p><p><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikH1rwxvpvBaeltjQWoj9EDPOsvMf-dOVuNBo2gUujmz3TUI8kWtgPID7MAny6tS5r-xXbnMjpfuIo_l5scjnPaLxYX42pjgAlAgK1ezN_4QLK7DURPqH9YVs8D_rjQVaK7YXGrQf_SGvGnbzWbg1ldTeo3LpZjVcsmX2Jwuax2xO848mszGNVohqyfe0/s1920/1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEikH1rwxvpvBaeltjQWoj9EDPOsvMf-dOVuNBo2gUujmz3TUI8kWtgPID7MAny6tS5r-xXbnMjpfuIo_l5scjnPaLxYX42pjgAlAgK1ezN_4QLK7DURPqH9YVs8D_rjQVaK7YXGrQf_SGvGnbzWbg1ldTeo3LpZjVcsmX2Jwuax2xO848mszGNVohqyfe0/w640-h480/1.jpg" width="640" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp6dz0tPqJoeoPSq5EfyNUjbT13oT8Idf-pUvTvH12DOfLNx22vObOjK8p9zXjrNJLXqYSoZm5BB76KIdPzkjwIv_MwxAaiNTzjlDg0W2GLNaaHxO6Nsq57WDdowNeg9dLd74li91PIQjVgYzE05JvU4aWc1lN8BGMm4DVJn-jXhErfCzQotUhiHzoKEk/s1920/2.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgp6dz0tPqJoeoPSq5EfyNUjbT13oT8Idf-pUvTvH12DOfLNx22vObOjK8p9zXjrNJLXqYSoZm5BB76KIdPzkjwIv_MwxAaiNTzjlDg0W2GLNaaHxO6Nsq57WDdowNeg9dLd74li91PIQjVgYzE05JvU4aWc1lN8BGMm4DVJn-jXhErfCzQotUhiHzoKEk/w640-h480/2.jpg" width="640" /></a></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7311059832490784368.post-64326172066804804462024-01-02T21:57:00.003-06:002024-03-08T08:00:08.318-06:00AEC wins CREST Award, Education Foundation Grant<p>Alternative Education Center won two awards during the school year 2023-24: Counselors Reinforcing Excellence in Students in Texas (CREST) and Education Foundation Grant. CREST is awarded yearly by the Texas School Counseling Association to Texas public schools implementing the Texas Comprehensive School Counseling Program with the highest integrity. Schools are judged based on the five categories specified in the Press Release below. It was the first time that AEC received this award, and the community of Odessa joined in the celebration. This state award is living proof that integrating global education into school counseling does not imperil the core of counseling; instead, it enhances students' mental health as they start seeing their significance and contribution to the world. The purpose of International Civil Aviation Day is to help generate and reinforce worldwide awareness of the importance of international civil aviation to the social and economic development of countries and states. It also promotes the unique role of ICAO in helping countries cooperate and realize a truly global rapid transit network at the service of all mankind.</p><p>AEC students discussed degree programs and careers that would lead to working in the airplane industry and reflected on their interest in this field. They related the concept of flying to dreaming big for their bright future. Students played a card game to discuss dreams and aspirations despite experiences of challenges and abuse. They created stories reflecting future plans using story cubes. They then used an airplane coloring activity to identify and describe loved ones who would support them and fly with them as they strive to reach their dreams. Students discussed how the celebration and activities promote the global goal of decent work and economic growth.</p><p><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/civil-aviation-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="963" data-original-width="1284" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAPdN0TvnbgxKqkjtTsn1pimdxor8J7UBnUhuubBEu_04W7kNayL9l-bMHF2XbXkjHkvGyyNgxlWVkiHnlpEW2XF3MMFwTMP7dyjvg92pRvO1yKrHUo76MUOmh-JAIRIUxWJ16QkBBPTHAP2DChX9dw3Vdg3sl6HtOVzdkOOW87yj2qCoIab0f57LxJoY/w640-h480/thumbnail_763A10FB-2F24-48A9-B9ED-DFE732CA6401.jpg" width="640" /></a><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/civil-aviation-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMxJcqqtRyS8PsN6zD6nobb-tYjwxtMaw1CbbLUrYXA17F7Ks18Bx_xjrQb8AdExLeZ9Fr3ChAnT02KcBcfTzEldC6G4qAzeK7udUVsGEQugY64qhs4m_sPlWWcfRlZ1c3Wr1KNDFNBdlVIZc-N-3gOzlWOP4o85vSRuzzLra_g4qXiOsiLio9rnoB5z8/w640-h480/thumbnail_IMG_8666.jpg" width="640" /></a><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/civil-aviation-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEiUItcMllDRsevEi0_YleyKjJzTPqsplJhHyBPFUuooUcWxL-rOoomo2BEkz5cU9Al7eV_GDQmVessN5D4fy1iQIRJA3wQ4FreCRv6ogH58ecXE9c6SaBuocTLlWSawEzbT46dhrOJgDgqtnXQ7NBLdYciathKi75JkEql1MOBtfPT8tn-p1poqBXjS0/w640-h480/thumbnail_IMG_8668.jpg" width="640" /></a></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7311059832490784368.post-32718383849863670312023-12-14T15:41:00.002-06:002024-03-08T07:57:24.736-06:00AEC celebrates International Day of Banks <p>Alternative Education Center celebrated <a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/international-day-of-banks" target="_blank">International Day of Banks</a> on December 4, 2023. The celebration recognizes the significant potential of multilateral development banks and other international development banks in financing sustainable development and the vital role of the banking systems in the UN Member States in improving the standard of living. The major goal is to achieve sustainable development in its three dimensions – economic, social, and environmental. </p><p>Students at the Alternative Education Center discussed lessons on banking and financial literacy and ways other core areas could support the promotion of financial literacy. English could train students to read and communicate financial activities. Social Studies could help students see the personal, societal, and governmental benefits of effective financial management. Lastly, Science could teach students to use scientific problem-solving strategies to combat financial dilemmas that impact other problems of the world. On a personal level, through a guidance lesson group activity, students recognized and explained ways to earn money other than illegal activities, such as dealing drugs. Using art, students visualized their future means to earn money that is legal and something they and their families could be proud of. Students discussed how their little economic contribution could help meet the global goal of decent work and economic growth.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgrmxDh8Na505hIJFr15eY2kBgEq5k0Fr0pYW4NS13NeqULI5uURoJoDWe7dC4QTIJJ-j1WJKu7WQgYDmrHKmWfPc5n58zoRIDwooKn2uvjr5Nbud2qm1JpWySVctnR39djGCWxM3IItjtMUUbSXnjiK6jlKw-XH0h6GOnFcwbXbUlN8FjfO3eVbSuqKw/s1920/thumbnail_IMG_8633.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhgrmxDh8Na505hIJFr15eY2kBgEq5k0Fr0pYW4NS13NeqULI5uURoJoDWe7dC4QTIJJ-j1WJKu7WQgYDmrHKmWfPc5n58zoRIDwooKn2uvjr5Nbud2qm1JpWySVctnR39djGCWxM3IItjtMUUbSXnjiK6jlKw-XH0h6GOnFcwbXbUlN8FjfO3eVbSuqKw/w640-h480/thumbnail_IMG_8633.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgA-31GpryPHbx3dmN6qGpSjF-T3zLbgcCNKbW9Znykfa1v4nNk7XsklQovIeN2-JdgQ70HGLSPczXU3kPkPBmsBztdbfsG-gMH2xJsWliROsHcziNts06G2f3xu1Yx0QvhDgZMTRsBkqTVqBn0bnOwX9BdzUz9zFE-Je6oQgvCsknVPCYc0az-6x7gJwE/s1920/thumbnail_IMG_8634.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgA-31GpryPHbx3dmN6qGpSjF-T3zLbgcCNKbW9Znykfa1v4nNk7XsklQovIeN2-JdgQ70HGLSPczXU3kPkPBmsBztdbfsG-gMH2xJsWliROsHcziNts06G2f3xu1Yx0QvhDgZMTRsBkqTVqBn0bnOwX9BdzUz9zFE-Je6oQgvCsknVPCYc0az-6x7gJwE/w640-h480/thumbnail_IMG_8634.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7311059832490784368.post-88388449976560407002023-12-03T22:44:00.003-06:002023-12-03T22:58:04.739-06:00AEC joins International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women <p>Alternative Education Center joined the celebration of <a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/ending-violence-against-women-day" target="_blank">International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women</a> observed on November 25, 2023, and the UNiTE campaign from November 25th to December 10th, an initiative of 16 days of activism to help end women's rights violations. This 2023 campaign <i>Invest to Prevent Violence against Women and Girls</i> calls on all people to show how much they care about ending violence against these groups and call on governments all over the world to share how they intentionally invest in the prevention of gender-based violence.</p><p>At AEC, students recognized perspectives and discussed ideas on how to support women at home, in society, in the country, and in the world to promote the global goals of gender equality and reduced inequalities. Students identified anger as the root cause of violence. They shared how to regulate their own anger by playing Totika game on anger. Then, they created a storybook to describe the many things they are thankful for about the woman they love and care about in life and are willing to protect from any form of violence.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/ending-violence-against-women-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiNO8muzU7-AhyphenhyphenrG3SYHhqdBlKDgbCwuhiqL6RE9cv9zyB_nl7BCq52_SmSDLdzDMsPovkR-xIEAQuWRKNwU5eh8bl3sSrKPCuDDRuHYVfdWdK1lxyYiU4L6a9tXEZ21EueaDFeIn4LmwmMhYPR29ZUcqJEB0xazxmOASe1PeAmkcr6WjjesdgAlD2xpaY/w640-h480/4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><span><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/ending-violence-against-women-day" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPvD-ItbQXwBfG4oN1VzCzEeGfklth0pzVMvaDgZxu42FAzpOQGhEYMGt4_c2hrbXQEFq6I3Lndu1YCmRYDGx9B38RdEljK4m7HNfxYKD2HR3N60zLivhBBp0qiIwDWVUEj7O9FQUX17VNP7wlpVzW1SS16aJPz1w0Z6C3on3NgK9GoiyPNjyntzZmBvQ/w640-h480/2.jpg" width="640" /></a></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/ending-violence-against-women-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLONSio_SbHtka7fehg7cGU-h6oT7uY6Ae0cLa9IJfdN0cRTbDbgK8izbjrQeo1j9eTNOD-1dcFE7B2QC0CualhZ5wmb5Ce7njuNOQx3jmwNmyg_fh4W62iQe6aoDn61VoeU5JyW5gfNqGgQu2pv1OdjDIoZoUbpEkHieGI_BPhZEfxBvdtZnPysE7GrQ/w640-h480/1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/ending-violence-against-women-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioSQAbuzrYh5Al-hpaHJGjj274dI-e7JmPPmI-LSJyOA4sO-crw3Px05RYKxVVZ29P4NT0y6Xa0GfQ9QQVt2g-ttIB3gXP4jBihwYSoJcd-kPI0cAH8cSNpF-vatCYrDznsFGXwhDVK2REfotJj4ZU00xo6n2lyJWa-GVkKodGAThZXEuxxS7JiaP3Lrc/w640-h480/3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7311059832490784368.post-85318783466467121812023-11-21T18:23:00.000-06:002023-11-21T18:23:19.801-06:00AEC celebrates World Science Day for Peace and Development<p>With this year's theme <i>Building Trust in Science</i>, Alternative Education Center celebrated <a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/world-science-day" target="_blank">World Science Day for Peace and Development</a> on November 10, 2023. World Science Day highlights the significant role of science in society and the need to engage the world in addressing scientific issues. The celebration undescores the significance of science in our daily lives. Scientific innovations, however, start with our trust in science.</p><p>Students at AEC discussed about local scientific innovations that helped develop Odessa. Many referenced the oil and gas production in the region that was made possible through science. Students discussed related careers to sustain Odessa's progress and skills needed to achieve them by playing Career and School Success Thumballs. They also played modified Owl Pal Truth cards to challenge their trust in science and perceptions about their abilities. They then used art therapy to demonstrate their future scientific contributions to maintain Odessa's peace and development. Students discussed how the activities helped promote wellness practices and the global goal of industry, innovation, and infrastructure.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/world-science-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgMVX0Mx1ZuePeILA0BSPKEblhedcaenf_YaP0ZFquBE6KHWGf3Y-ggTG7XVk_c7mA4pwzd94VXYmtd_dBJ6c4WENg6dVi3gRoUOkpeOz62gCkv8Y8DadifClaJNQP188qFws6LV-fuvD8kicfYN0GFUzz0VLAeVooeOEVi7ZGPL9zwtpe7Fmgas6W1IRM/w640-h480/4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/world-science-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglJ-nevnsDZ7ll9MiLC8OfN3-0Y1OdHzSEXpSaU-B9vlvqaR27Vhv925Q68ZsC4MrLb5pezW7DJjHIKVGxHEQJ2oysAtdGvp_iUKPYVlEG62l6_fZM8DyuUvs6cD-QMjtGsWEooDtRBSrsTTb-3oSts-qvv2z3hYu2jVQFNXZHasOetyqGpCtIYmFu5fA/w640-h480/3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/world-science-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1439" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhT4Dp9dnTIncFbYUpiQqOvzR7qiKWBwdD9_wC5WmZ7Jw5jV8PuhvCsPKJQDWySerdAAFhnlYHTq35Hw1mfEVF1pRRJpglCFfMS3bVaONubVrfaSIhmTerp5BG-6rJUiYUkgfSU-W8kAAgmwcjyb7hD92VdmBawSO4psQ0VTEh4fqTJKWR5mgJvdQUCebk/w640-h480/2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/world-science-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgvILVgVjBJ2ivuN7FOuWJ31Sf-OmrwMAhNY5a3-N7guudkf-50ZPnzRHwdEk2P4IJFkBn-vtGfJNcPEEfew3MlTUyDXCP7l8gFxJKbw1jgvDFnJ9EHLSNsQRRcA1n5VxBQerpJHoO24ZSdO-yUAYwGbwarx_mjQrqxtVoV_4EG65zVrQv_Af9p-SD_T_Y/w640-h480/1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7311059832490784368.post-35908401937473580482023-11-19T06:55:00.006-06:002023-11-21T18:26:26.400-06:00AEC observes International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists<p>Alternative Education Center observed the <a href="International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists" target="_blank">International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists</a> on November 2-3, 2023. The observance raises awareness of the major challenges journalists face in exercising their profession and the role they play in society. This year's theme focuses on the violence against journalists, the integrity of elections, and the role of public leadership.</p><p>Students at AEC explored courses and degrees that may lead to becoming journalists, journalism career opportunities, and journalists' responsibilities. They read a local news article <i><a href="https://www.oaoa.com/local-news/grant-helps-counselors-take-a-different-approach-at-aec/" target="_blank">Grant helps counselors take a different approach at AEC</a> </i>that promotes community awareness of recent counseling activities at AEC. Local journalists help communicate to the community what AEC does for at-risk students in Odessa. They also help spread awareness of the recent district bond election that impacts the students of Odessa. Students at AEC did a coloring therapy activity with a journalism theme and discussed ways to help eliminate violence against journalists. Students then related journalist violence with similar violence faced by teenagers by playing a modified Teenage Violence card game. They discussed how the observance promotes wellness practices and the global goal of peace, justice, and strong institutions.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/end-impunity-crimes-against-journalists" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZwSo2uXxSmQ2nHG1FJRntLtRCxfQSuv2X-mJ-rcUAu_93H9GaFBDhAFrFbBs0V_ryVamRyyunUdw6Wr7FkBfdYQkvKD5l7IWWlkUzRnBbTX1AmZPOvnxsIxHJN7M1AePUxHUn0nF4b36oFQWxLav6SRfT4T7AbLN3R60XzOZXCyppinDksCPoDKM8dnE/w640-h480/1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/end-impunity-crimes-against-journalists" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjBNCTSzKAU2VzNqz6LV0pVLBIAFE7LrFuMLEDl8qSN5Iho179cfas-R8jq_HaCINlC3LnwJS0zge3jjHraV3coZTy7YMwp5Tw0z8Uy02qzp3XWqKLcrrZ1_IjztTgoWkJ3trhZhGoznnE8OZ8fWvhVIwz9QBzCBuPl_TZhxMAkYbr2uKNuPe8IKjfdsLo/w640-h480/2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/end-impunity-crimes-against-journalists" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1439" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9b9pyPnrBPiJw7iSNga_AZzHW81lHpbmQ14jOYFmK0O5fYYYTbhstTLbmJdvRDDSJQf_icLGchgtNm7T_IZ0FSScAQSVdFffZpgJRf9o-6wgjAvvXMkRRG19QOuUABuJ5S0NreYsVxPNXfE5am1C4L1sekVQNwfVKYqFXIrG6zXUhMb-nvz1saMdL3q8/w640-h480/3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/end-impunity-crimes-against-journalists" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOFXPfdlyY8xrgyQGXRBftY76RjYQHNpJDK2qYz7GoGRTNrhHtEnn2ggSbN79nWg1nnq1XXO6jmYEtWzvzZyPX3dRP4M9sA0rhlb2h4uJavjMyfg7w0XThNuZBb8_nZrRWWjNdK6YJubWXLRhJL6aSUpAhhsTrGUm87pnMF4VMULhEGhFHuxFrmBpZbL4/w640-h480/4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/end-impunity-crimes-against-journalists" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8x-vDWv1pUM-83Jx-V7Hh30IneCBtwlL24M26mqsNdNTXH_mbGCkK2051RM4rBhyphenhyphenLaUEcMjJN778t9fAqXDMgFnW2fGQjJQqud9JFHgWk7HHpJJozQWEAc2hjekDt26H-1fSGC7AHBU2N1WCaQZobQkRBVnimm13JB1ObtCrpYOG9goAjw4n2KuIhrbc/w640-h480/5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><p><br /></p>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7311059832490784368.post-90928214243291271182023-11-02T08:42:00.007-05:002023-11-19T07:20:10.696-06:00AEC celebrates World Day for Audiovisual Heritage<p>Alternative Education Center celebrated <a href="https://www.unesco.org/en/days/audiovisual-heritage" target="_blank">World Day for Audiovisual Heritage</a> on October 27, 2023, with the theme “Your Window to the World.” The celebration is a commemoration of the adoption of the Recommendation for the Safeguarding and Preservation of Moving Images in 1980 by the UN's 21st General Conference. It provides an avenue for people around the world to raise general awareness of the importance of audiovisual documents and to take urgent measures to preserve them. </p><p>Students at the Alternative Education Center watched a video depicting Odessa, TX, heritage and culture. Students shared their own heritage, culture, and identity. They drew and explained their cultural strengths inherited from their families. They then played a counseling card game called Superhero Strengths, recognizing that real-life superheroes accept their weaknesses and turn them into strengths. Students discussed how the celebration promotes wellness practices and the global goal of good health and well-being.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.unesco.org/en/days/audiovisual-heritage" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="963" data-original-width="1284" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhorPF2kiAP8fKAWpj-r6GC15PFDEuNCBEbm8zZ3qPKMtkVcfnMhRQAAjdAs4t0tg3AFCSqf-s2OwF5iBdJ0lPt07hMnp3kOZWEE3WcuP4nUWxLKFaulVdC5Pey63beXYwmb_ZEB7cPkN9gK9jkBUtwZ-W3ERIQhK7I3sJQ8-pTPg_0RX2G4QDp0XuuMPA/w640-h480/1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.unesco.org/en/days/audiovisual-heritage" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiI2YHgn08-GhyphenhyphenbgkaNdvmEl6mTBkPysP_FOd-81sq2cbenKCWCxOD3HiY7Pjl7bNMgQ4_nx7RGmwIdSpusxtGSd371BCp9DNZgN8RkgfcQs509SmpHhwTf40d_GjauEXNYBxCiuovdn7re_1dBQE8IPREqAm43zn18b4rW7aK0jew04glrrgqF3rIhqqc/w640-h480/3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.unesco.org/en/days/audiovisual-heritage" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEilKAmo3-jm-QZ2ibcoO93DbJbAH2xjitNSh5OtwgmsXFo8B9yh6rSH-9UL3n6CBC3CkqbWjdTNL9xlIYgntfH5_DK062nng_1BdMpncMgah6zk0QZnGXoNIRzMxdUPQrbPJS7XxztdrZQ7OLjOnvNYEpbu1RW0hBfWMf7tYa7-PUADBq2CQezs1lq5H2s/w640-h480/2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8RLYSQLxfuhEW9474lBo5jz_I4Zvaq7hT1F9a3teBxhvqmUIG34mJBfzwagTtOZySFPdianbfZf9DTIRoBIlfKf1pKWjIu_5PeDCQbd_KUGsRjy3cjBIzUKJ1VD2whC6qM8OmlKJU4akp6K-RxnCtkKX9530AAsKqlrAUbh4JsMyopbtsLDaycq1Qbs8/s1920/5.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8RLYSQLxfuhEW9474lBo5jz_I4Zvaq7hT1F9a3teBxhvqmUIG34mJBfzwagTtOZySFPdianbfZf9DTIRoBIlfKf1pKWjIu_5PeDCQbd_KUGsRjy3cjBIzUKJ1VD2whC6qM8OmlKJU4akp6K-RxnCtkKX9530AAsKqlrAUbh4JsMyopbtsLDaycq1Qbs8/w640-h480/5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7311059832490784368.post-3853629437798487452023-10-22T23:01:00.005-05:002023-11-19T07:04:40.245-06:00AEC celebrates International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction<p>Alternative Education Center joined the world in celebrating the <a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/disaster-reduction-day" target="_blank">International Day for Disaster Reduction</a> on October 13, 2023, with the theme, Fighting Inequality for a Resilient Future. This year’s celebration addressed the connection between disasters and inequality. Unequal access to services leaves the most vulnerable exposed to the danger of disasters. The theme aligns with the Sendai Framework, the international agreement to prevent and reduce losses in lives, livelihoods, economies, and basic infrastructure when disasters occur.</p><p>At AEC, students discussed the disasters they experienced in town and ways to address them to maintain wellness practices and achieve the global goals of climate action and reduced inequalities. Many remembered the most devastating winter storm of February 2021, with hails damaging cars and houses and snow causing power outages for days. However, Texans were resilient and stood back up after the disaster regardless of property damages or even deaths of family members due to the storm. Students identified careers of choice to help the city withstand disasters, drew what their future career contributions could look like, and discussed social skills needed to achieve their careers.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/disaster-reduction-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjgrXPdK3EMOZbqeDaYgghM4HqQnbEJG8Tjz2oShYfsqKjBGby2f_byO0Q4EihHYGL60irBQ81mRD5k0o5t2ecSbzzAwbBH7EjsDzQg3uvZYNwWG2D80f6o7VOWFCykYR9FRwxLoWKHpAz2uc2HmaUis_o7CbRRc6JN64o6MMxIVcXoUNAULnkqh2Q_Nso/w640-h480/Disaster3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/disaster-reduction-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjeimbljtTe-2lTGAHBhlQDm59FYyZP8xu-RkQoLwknfZvb6r8d2hTsrWu6sOrO_1eza_wghIhjOqxmQgVry1HCQrwreIvqJWWwAyo-N_MpLVoAhhIKeZpk6snr4AwqqNvE20CLM90NFhfzECkf_2UordY1giNc4_jpoemfYtYorrNOuKuh0axTJ0YPZJU/w640-h480/Disaster2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/disaster-reduction-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiV7EKfp15PRwnkqdbPmPvrAEqfaWJ026jwKKhFBd4Lr1U2vdVFHl7MHJLhaqnTfz4kBkNcXz8yhM4TppmeYxOyUj5itIJO3vz1XZu6BRiMDzY2fxn_AAiNUKdB6XHSHoy4fBg-4CkhjcKkJ-58soLzY6kvDIXPwfOss7KSNH5pAuX9u99kh6cYVMY1WK4/w640-h480/6Disaster5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/disaster-reduction-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1920" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjj2rglF0iScwwCniIkqahJtYQfFK34E-HJFEqx1DooL1URwfKqw-RzJCl9UMIGDEJe9iU-6YBD4TgmFRF2a5GR8eOPFPOQ_GvFFw8zl0RqOAdyhEgXrXH87LS4XpB1pA-0cLiXXwx0EPKI9vWVO7bYLmDoEPYppXoTgVKN0T3F-5NJsxfC817lKPX7pto/w640-h480/Disaster5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7311059832490784368.post-58274914464151262162023-10-16T00:50:00.012-05:002023-11-04T10:09:30.821-05:00AEC global education project changes focus<p>Alternative Education Center changed its global education project focus from writing across the curriculum to counseling. The change aligned with the project founder's role transition from Math Department Head to School Counselor. The 2022-2023 school year focused on counseling and integrating global sustainable development goals and global competence through the lens of local issues and challenges. The project founder's <a href="https://sites.google.com/view/teacherreysglobaleducation/travel/travel-blog?authuser=0" target="_blank">Fullbright Fellowship in Canada</a> equipped him with the knowledge and skills to continue advocating for global education while carrying the role of School Counselor. His visits to various highly performing schools and meetings with education agency officials and U.S. Ambassadors in Toronto and Quebec gifted him with innumerable ideas to share with the AEC community. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.irex.org/project/fulbright-teachers-global-classrooms-program-fulbright-tgc" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1696" data-original-width="2208" height="492" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg15ErA-NPoKYuaqS8WgqnGr6w6YFGOuzKkFlwPYmz50rUXEEl7NDNXDu1OMAxFIAhcK3JpeWMjjA3agivH5_Sv2ifo2TUc86UEgxxfLR_nOZnKADVoLDwt0c90nBuZqeIhltJwVDMSqIfAw9dpzL29RbPG9JouE9Jpl52cqaOZNo22Any8Whp7DsUWrls/w640-h492/Fulbright%20Cert.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://sites.google.com/view/teacherreysglobaleducation/travel/travel-blog?authuser=0" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1377" data-original-width="1834" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvJshO9X0IGfMENzuvXhCzO1uDZiI4HEmWQVtVThO0c6wGGZGFbkoRpPKnYbcK0NDu-e0FNKKrih0Dw_HYZfQh6cpP-XYuQOyXPVpZ8ii-0EEgDLwiEk6gG4ZvHvM4_RBUDruzw8fjSP-jPf_5M9QEj74ur3RjjnxFXHeik2RqMQIHW1QzgT6oBXrby7w/w640-h480/5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://sites.google.com/view/teacherreysglobaleducation/travel/travel-blog?authuser=0" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1534" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHxRz0kYFqaYdnNiLJAUfabvclemW3FmaHsJ8_Oht17KbWL6N8nKTt1CqVfXxTC9rEdrS65Az0uBgu0qlKegUABtyNrUvqajUXPs6jp_UWx53vON1sGxS7Cpu0suO20B-tgfKoVOhl-uvPcwExg-YhEJDTVrYL_tkPcTaGMh7VvYJmNEhnoLJWNkrH7Qc/w640-h480/4.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://sites.google.com/view/teacherreysglobaleducation/travel/travel-blog?authuser=0" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1534" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEm53Ir3xlVt-JRTK8hPv_tp2hHdf0x7Rl877wp7DJkb9QBfZwsV7JeezZWxkkOztXkSI00cXifJOgEvA_kV9cfFskp_DAamby8mEsRxHWwX9NlbTe3WGAnhlB23SAOP6wuNEXSEpAQC-OsIsnCxJrAZI4e6yTZBiy9y8Om3Ha1L-IlID2gB71bdNSYVk/w640-h480/3.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://sites.google.com/view/teacherreysglobaleducation/travel/travel-blog?authuser=0" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="960" data-original-width="1280" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhMp0Twg_1glK35NlZkRiuxPiefOXFKUbiClCgnEnM-OMQQUsub6QiAMt_YPi-GpqBebIrJFsTOP-Lw5w5oPJCEz97pxv_GLPgAL8nEUb9G-26u8uR7i1CKuZwEK0TICtKZ7G0-nYOEcDTHnIi5QUer-B7jOKtbV8xqw1MN4_jEXox07NlpOpeNsthDejA/w640-h480/2.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://sites.google.com/view/teacherreysglobaleducation/travel/travel-blog?authuser=0" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1133" data-original-width="1776" height="408" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgyxkacSeZoVMLpggOqzYnD0OZSINza8UxJaprVX5O2gI2X3cUGCUlo4ErO-PpQmmYnh8hOfBKxMJhOvgn_CiMQ1GgVgfQlkGmuyfneSq2lOERX4p5uj2fwEw6Dm2bP-0U2wKyQXj6o4w97cYtVvFkztrpCdfkXlvRhOthGJBuaiaQ7deG9vmCiwVpmpqw/w640-h408/1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">In line with the identified school counseling need for intrapersonal effectiveness for S.Y. 2022-2023 and the global sustainable development goal of good health and well-being, Alternative Education Center streamlined its school resources for the smooth implementation of 7 Mindsets, the ECISD-recommended program to teach guidance and SEL skills. Students studied the number of United Nations peacemaking missions from 1947 to 2021 and used regression to describe the trend mathematically. As their final exam review, students solved math problems by completing a math peace poster. They also completed a peace word puzzle for fun. They then wrote an essay on how the Russia-Ukraine war affected the global sustainable development goal of peace, justice, and strong institutions and what should be done to help end the war. Through the activities, students learned the purpose of the UN peacemaking missions, which is to prevent future conflicts between countries and support global stabilization and rebuilding efforts. They realized that peacemaking efforts to stop the Russia-Ukraine war unfortunately failed, but the world's prayers and wishes to end the war continue. </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/living-in-peace-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZp_a_Z761AyIwcdkD5bmA2icXJXuM7U7FVOlvsziriQ_DZ7CkQ12wZO4vgV2G-v6W-97C_gYCnvMGsOlQnnmiaqkND8rwABF1-00KNDBYd9MU7SxsPzTfKuIzmoJE9VHTmRfiWiAAgunJ7MrfQqWiKEPSFzJk40LYB1rHtAQDwC6_V-j5F8Ofp-Bi/w640-h480/IMG_0297.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/living-in-peace-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-U-A3uL5WJBjAi99vRLZvtL-8hGEHIX4ZHmniJ0FrClWh7RlXOg3JTvb6AQAcHXanaDWamSxPuHbZX5nUYrCysUzmVDFzu26n1wvLMhLXe003Je0e0W9zt8oYxJCyz9ap_eFErUpJWYvydE-2_qBETGeOGQ2zvUgz1iTfi1E5Yj61HTvZHIy7vrOk/w640-h480/IMG_0298.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/living-in-peace-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWhf00wH1r8vhlrUm7i90glajH8Twge5w99TcnJ-YMJyZhpELHdN0x8EczDQNAw2BiorpbkHXdMk67xucWurQiN4vTulozzXrDn01DT7tTeS8i8vKDG2_nGVHh9iqzL2oPiQn64lfUHvfF1QDy-05DrUDpwPsEwHTazhVDRbdVFQL30yfeDDUfhgF2/w640-h480/IMG_0299.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/living-in-peace-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2MW3p9_gT4BnZomgOcU9bfpqZAKjS1iFoEzPLYWm4D4ey3pTTF_4NydNluvsGP9V1aGdot_-_YqHlYuGc3oVL_thVngCj6V48Ie_taH_gpVfDDK_acHdoMZlHVF6gM3hrGRiIWYwProjkNL2MpzSYjrt6NCXZuMwkIrH5LnQsKJ1yBXnmeNwCHuyY/w640-h480/IMG_0300.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/living-in-peace-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="3023" data-original-width="4031" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSY9fE4kOBORhF1lhyZsEKx4ZmpgglS775KwEClbcmTZ0B13N7b9lT9uOempm0qvKcTGktQyQDGyJdqM-ZTgIZLhP1KXxYVfFM9JVaWlxk6zrYFDFNfb86I6dlJ_Fe3X3NmiPpRIQr3tQLNZrw2BDn7lqp6xcaJdI-mHEjFo-dMh2VuLbWqbMGk6KS/w640-h480/IMG_0302.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/living-in-peace-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="3024" data-original-width="4032" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEioegkJMk3hGJo6-iKayvl3Qu9etAouxLNMnGIaAcOzTciYCI2t-4cXQ70_mAMChHC11b5-mzPHX6race-7CohpL1FnBRZ3jucC4yh2TXOIJxY7SMgE3g7xHnD0ParM9hHKZQlqrgZZ7K7rxfSkn_t9ngwzloUf50hd2QwdPX1nAYMMKHlGZMOINBQG/w640-h480/IMG_0303.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7311059832490784368.post-51894808809031368192022-03-31T17:41:00.003-05:002023-10-15T16:07:19.390-05:00AEC participates in 2022 World Needs Challenge<p>Through the leadership of Arts Teacher Valerie Stewart, students from the Alternative Education Center, Odessa, TX, participated in the 2022 World Needs Challenge with the theme, "Sparking global change through art–ivism." Students created posters incorporating their Arts or Math lessons and covering any global causes they support, such as clean oceans, humanitarian aid for refugees, hunger relief, overcoming bias, and arts activism. Students watched declassified films of US nuclear tests and U.S. employment of nuclear weapons during the Second World War. They read the background and rationale of the International Day against Nuclear Tests and discussed the many effects of nuclear tests worldwide. Students integrated the celebration into their lessons by describing using functions the number of nuclear tests conducted globally from 1945 to 1998. They identified graphical trends of nuclear tests that were significant to the world and wrote how the annual International Day against Nuclear Tests helps promote the global sustainable development goal of peace, justice, and strong institutions.</p><p>The United Nations General Assembly's 64th session on December 2, 2009, declared August 29 the International Day against Nuclear Tests. Its resolution stressed that every country's effort should be made to end nuclear tests in order to prevent their destructive effects on people's lives and health. Global nuclear test termination is the most practical and civil mechanism of achieving the ideal nuclear-weapon-free world.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/end-nuclear-tests-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiKtQkgZxQrlnmvXQQeYbYCAcXf-HORjNUiq3AZnWQuObR4P6OhYgw_cR_lUdHrnjXjGoaZtC2YFW-s3H6f575u2BeArpOSVmFETfnzcgFBtSXxIAtUWNhSBHZZQIRZiil4fZ2UcJF104Q/w640-h480/20210827_172941_Film1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/end-nuclear-tests-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEglyDdLGKqQIs60iFhkpl6j6U9l3DP7KOdVYIun4KCV-1hBLOe9FmB-jilOX60oJDixRrdZ_YxtTpQHsiH_YRZ9uZ0Lm8oSrpX78MApeRa7s7S81qlJFI1TlBxiHmUtw08D9yKnqgQGKsQ/w640-h480/20210827_173032_Film1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/end-nuclear-tests-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOKtgdkvJRkcp1gCg9aHoxI0y3tRzLJ72RyHhNtHng7nRhIqaObiAYQ603CjjG3dAG4ENQiWxA6oezy-Ib0lXtzJS9nrwlqRmZJHLzIm1kjFzJDWa3DUwKTwnSyDYvySrOVH5jYjHE2lk/w640-h480/20210827_133354_Film1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/end-nuclear-tests-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtVOqXmNS7TPxteiI5_xJTVZUAo4CdvJvB59ugMx6W3Z0ID_lfNaN002DwTYrIGLGdtn-H3v9eQT5GfbrXjDWVJTQ4hkS087bQnjQ6h90-ZEzJ27h-9yVq6neu2LIZOCES_M3tEDhSA4M/w640-h480/20210827_134326_Film1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://www.un.org/en/observances/end-nuclear-tests-day" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;" target="_blank"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKRDmXa-yYAT6Pf6zHKlOPfoXnaQc7UBHtITawWcFsKfqSp0ipHKy2VyyQhlYSLjXPSGGtqeMgxuto1vKyGIvwGGHjubrmYhxKI-3O-Ih_r_8HDUI3xHK2ofvxhUQDAWeyzjerhlB21GE/w640-h480/20210827_134735_Film1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7311059832490784368.post-26849134372704102522021-07-14T22:40:00.004-05:002021-07-23T20:00:06.366-05:00IJWC adviser participates in 2021 Global Teaching Dialogue<p>The International Junior Writers Club adviser participated in the U.S. Department of State's virtual

The package was sent to the Philippines through a cargo shipping service early this month. Principal Adam Portillo and Math Teacher Lacey Moore volunteered to donate each a bag of used but decent clothes. IJWC adviser bought clothes from Odessa's Door of Hope Outlet Center and some can goods to be included in the package. </p><p>No poverty is the leading global sustainable development goal. Sharing blessings especially with poor countries like in Asia is one of the many ways we can help meet this global goal. By modeling it, students will see and apply the value of the noble and humanitarian gesture of sharing. Blessings to be shared do not need to be material or expensive as long as they come from the heart, wrapped with good intentions.</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDB9S1mWRTJqnjyIsb0vfhQOxL5NWsBuZJWA35IlNcwtJjIlYKprJ2MA21F7Yni9Z_0JwhLnxrNK6SXYio4-mxmtz9baTw76cQR0LmlUdeDN_daBvx3d1YQC21mz3Fiai6DmsJmszwgBA/s2048/20210509_140449_Film1+%25281%2529.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDB9S1mWRTJqnjyIsb0vfhQOxL5NWsBuZJWA35IlNcwtJjIlYKprJ2MA21F7Yni9Z_0JwhLnxrNK6SXYio4-mxmtz9baTw76cQR0LmlUdeDN_daBvx3d1YQC21mz3Fiai6DmsJmszwgBA/w640-h480/20210509_140449_Film1+%25281%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXUxs4tZqAdYg9Rwjpj9E7DpY9iKPINX-vPz5Q0o-JFI-4snQXq6uA_-IiTZzKZHUyNLSddLlPlOIiMC5jOMETAAeTAZfewUH_OiuefgPFrLlkJqhhj0ZgCQWX8knqQkzRffjHKj2c7jM/s2048/20210509_140443_Film1.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXUxs4tZqAdYg9Rwjpj9E7DpY9iKPINX-vPz5Q0o-JFI-4snQXq6uA_-IiTZzKZHUyNLSddLlPlOIiMC5jOMETAAeTAZfewUH_OiuefgPFrLlkJqhhj0ZgCQWX8knqQkzRffjHKj2c7jM/w640-h480/20210509_140443_Film1.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXF3jhwodgQES0kgJMN_DwCuggPZRKBlwzO9QU5uKkPBry6fLGly5rXdiiNTbRxEiYTXeDEKXtTT-7Hb-noVczcGNss3lV1dL0vqgh9B6EPz-jb_vmSvCESVumE_WYOF4xZPcQ9mvTY14/s2048/20210509_141650_Film1+%25281%2529.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1536" data-original-width="2048" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjXF3jhwodgQES0kgJMN_DwCuggPZRKBlwzO9QU5uKkPBry6fLGly5rXdiiNTbRxEiYTXeDEKXtTT-7Hb-noVczcGNss3lV1dL0vqgh9B6EPz-jb_vmSvCESVumE_WYOF4xZPcQ9mvTY14/w640-h480/20210509_141650_Film1+%25281%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7311059832490784368.post-23615950162930489002021-05-09T00:21:00.012-05:002021-05-20T10:23:59.954-05:00AEC holds t-shirt idea contest for family day<p></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom: 0in;">Alternative Education Center, through the leadership of Art Teacher Whitney Carter, held a T-Shirt Idea Contest for AEC students, in celebration of the International Day of Families on May 15, 2021, with the theme, "Families and New Technologies."
